A. The church did not fail its people. on the contrary the church as it always has- kept civilization together and kept it from falling completely apart. Taxes and feudalism were state caused problems- along with the inquisition and Templar persecutions. These were the doings of the States of Europe who were far from control of the church. In fact, it took all the resources the church had to keep Christendom together as long as it had...There was always a despot king who resented papal interference in "their" church. Why was the Roman Catholic Church the most powerful religion during the Middle Ages?
Q. During the Middle Ages, the Roman Catholic Church was the most powerful religion. The majority of Europe during this time was Catholic. Most Catholics refer to this time as the "Age of Faith". I preferably call it the "Age of Ignorance". Why was the Roman Catholic Church so powerful during these times? What caused it to become this way all throughout Europe?

A. The Middle Ages are commonly dated from the fall of the Western Roman Empire (or by some scholars, before that) in the 5th century to the beginning of the Early Modern Period in the 16th century. In central Europe is was the only major Christian Church in existence that still exists today. This period was before the reformation so the only other major Christian Church was the Orthodox Church. Both of these Churches go back to the beginning. The Protestant reformation and the new theologies had not been invented yet.

How to keep church carpet from clashing with wedding colors?
Q. My fiance and I have this church that we like almost everything about. However, she says that the carpet color doesn't match any of the colors she would want for our wedding. Is there not a way to hide the carpet or de-emphasize it somehow so that the colors wouldn't clash?

A. You could use a simple white or off white aisle runner. That's about the only thing I know of... but honestly you won't even notice it with all the people walking around and all of your other decorations!
