An encyclopedia (also spelled encyclopaedia or encyclopædia) is a comprehensive written compendium that holds information from either all branches of knowledge or a particular branch of knowledge. Encyclopedias are divided into articles with one article on each subject covered. The articles on subjects in an encyclopedia are usually accessed alphabetically by article name and can be contained in one volume or many volumes, depending on the amount of material included.

Indeed, the purpose of an encyclopedia is to collect knowledge disseminated around the globe; to set forth its general system to the men with whom we live, and transmit it to those who will come after us, so that the work of preceding centuries will not become useless to the centuries to come; and so that our offspring, becoming better instructed, will at the same time become more virtuous and happy, and that we should not die without having rendered a service to the human race in the future years to come.

Why do women in the encyclopedia and movies paint spots on their breasts?
Q. My sister's barbies do not have anything on their breasts. However, when I see women's breasts on T.V. or in the encyclopedia they have large spots painted on them. Is this for decency's sake to cover up part of them?

Besides wikipedia and the encyclopedia britannica, what are some good places to do online research?
Q. I would like to find a site that has good information for a research paper. But, am not allowed to use wikipedia or the encyclopedia brittanica.

A. I'm not sure what your research is on, but hopefully some these sites can be of help! This is a really good free site that offers searches within a number of different encyclopedias. Wikipedia and Britannica are listed, but there are MANY more to choose from! Encyclopedia Mythica has info on mythology, folklore, and religion: Encyclopedia Smithsonian has info on art & design, history & culture, and science & technology: MedlinePlus is an encyclopedia containing health information: HyperHistory covers 3000 years of world history: Encyclopedia Orient contains info on North Africa and the Middle East: The U.S. Census Bureau site is the official government database of statistics: Biography.com has over 25,000… [cont.]

What is the number one online encyclopedia do you recommend?
Q. Like Encyclopedias like wikipedia which is always updated every second or whatever. Wikipedia is one of my sites in my links. I've heard some negative things about it. I've noticed that some things that I read on wiki are false. I think there's mistakes. Should I stick with wikipedia or do you have something else you recommend?

A. Any information anywhere can become as erroneous as it comes subjective. I have heard this too, but personally I still go to Wikipedia for the answers.
