What is the relationship between military occupation and military government?
Q. In the news, I often read about military occupation issues. Sometimes I see the subject of "military government" mentioned. So, I am wondering, what is the relationship between military occupation and military government? When does military occupation begin and when does military government begin? When (or via what criteria) do they end?

A. The Hague Conventions of 1907 specify that "territory is considered occupied when it is actually placed under the authority of the hostile army." William Birkhimer on page 33 of his opus Military Government and Martial Law (3rd edition, 1914) notes that: "The truth must be that a territory is militarily occupied when the invader dominates it to the exclusion of the former and regular government. The true test is exclusive possession." The form of administration by which an occupying power exercises government authority over occupied territory is called "military government." The US Constitution has placed no limit upon the war powers of the government, but they are regulated and limited by the laws of war. One of these powers is the… [cont.]

What type of women do military men prefer?
Q. The party girl type or the type that is more quiet and reserved? I'm the quiet type and I would just like to know what guys prefer.I directed the question towards military men because the guy that I'm interested in just happens to be in the military?

A. I don't think there is a certain "type" that military men look for. Every military guy could like a different kind of gal. Look at all the different types of people we have in the military...everything from cowboys to preps to gangstas. The most common thing I hear from the guys is that they won't date a military girl.

What is the most important military position a man in his mid 20s could hold, in extraordinary circumstances?
Q. What would be the most important and influential position a man in his mid 20's could hold in the government or military? It can be a government position (i.e. cabinet, etc.) but it must involve military or defense or something of the sort. And this is for a fictional story so it can be slightly unrealistic, but for the most part I want it to be theoretically possible.

  • "In the various states of society, armies are recruited from very different motives. Barbarians are urged by the love of war; the citizens of a free republic may be prompted by a principle of duty; the subjects, or at least the nobles, of a monarchy, are animated by a sentiment of honor; but the timid and luxurious inhabitants of a declining empire must be allured into the service by the hopes of profit, or compelled by the dread of punishment".
  • "What the main drift of the twentieth century has revealed is that the economy has become concentrated and incorporated in the great hierarchies, the military has become enlarged and decisive to the shape of the entire economic structure; and moreover the economic and the military have become structurally and deeply interrelated, as the economy has become a seemingly permanent war economy; and military men and policies have increasingly penetrated the corporate economy".
