Most academic subjects have a philosophy, for example the philosophy of science, the philosophy of mathematics, the philosophy of logic, the philosophy of law, and the philosophy of history. In addition, a range of academic subjects have emerged to deal with areas which would have historically been the subject of philosophy. These include psychology, anthropology and science.

Q. What have different philosophers commented about the issue of suffering, i.e. if God is all knowing, all loving and all powerful, why is there still suffering in the world. Also, id like what people generally think as well. anything interesting.

A. Hi, i've just done my philosophy A-Level exam so will relay this info from all my revision notes :) Epicurus outlined the 'Inconsistent triad' of God as you mentioned - that with evil and suffering in the world, how can He be: Omnipotent/all-powerful (if he knew evil existed, he would have the power to prevent it) Omniscient/all-knowing (if he had the power and love to stop suffering, he would, so does he not know about it?) Benevolent/all-loving (if he knew about suffering, and could stop it, surely if he was all-loving he would do so) many scholars have either suggested that indeed God seems to have caused suffering, or cannot exist because of it's existence, whilst others have tried to argue that God CAN still have these 3 qualities… [cont.]

How and where did the mathematicians and philosophers before, get the equations and formulas in math?

What is the importance of the Greek philosophers on modern thought?
Q. How is it and why is it that we currently still have the same way of thinking... example: past presidents of the United States based their law and allot of their rules on the great Greek philosophers.

A. Greek philosophy focused on the role of reason and inquiry. Many philosophers today concede that Greek philosophy has shaped the entire Western thought since its inception. Some facts that are not often considered is that during the Middle Ages, Greek ideas were largely forgotten in Western Europe. With the fall of Rome, very few people in the West were left who knew how to read Greek. The Islamic Abbasid caliphs gathered the manuscripts and hired translators to increase their prestige. Islamic philosophers such as Al-Kindi (Alkindus), Al-Farabi (Alpharabius), Avicenna (Ibn Sina) and Averroes (Ibn Rushd) reinterpreted Greek philosophies in the context of their religion. Their interpretations were later transmitted to the Europeans in… [cont.]
