In general, a region is a medium-scale area of land or water, smaller than the whole areas of interest (which could be, for example, the world, a nation, a river basin, mountain range, and so on), and larger than a specific site. A region may be seen as a collection of smaller units (as in "the New England states") or as one part of a larger whole (as in "the New England region of the United States"). Regions can be defined by physical characteristics, human characteristics, and functional characteristics. As a way of describing spatial areas, the concept of regions is important and widely used among the many branches of geography, each of which can describe areas in regional terms. For example, ecoregion is a term used in environmental geography, cultural region in cultural geography, bioregion in biogeography, and so on. GNU Free Documentation License How hard is it to get hired in regional airlines? Q. I'm just curious. Is it hard to get in to regional airlines as pilot? Or is it easy, like everyone can do it? Is the competition really hard among candidates who want to be a pilot in regional airlines? Or very easy??? I'm talking about recently. Airlines laid off thousands of pilots within the past month or two because of the economy. Whether it's regional or not, you're going to have a hard time probably for the next 1, maybe 2 or 3 years, until the economy gets better. Lets hope gas prices don't go up again, because that would cause even more lay offs and turmoil. Q. I am interested in getting into truck driving. I was wondering if anyone knows of any companies, in the Dallas, Fort Worth area, that you will train you and place you with a company that does regional instead of OTR trucking for the contract period? I have a family and don't want to be gone for long, long periods of time. I would like to be home weekends. Can't afford truck driving school though but OTR really isn't a big option for me. There are companies that do this and you will have to search, however, being a new driver, the insurance companies for these larger companies that can afford to "try you out", mostly require that you have some type of over the road (OTR) experience. A great company to contact is Arrow Trucking Company. They're out of Tulsa, OK. They can give some info regarding places to get your CDL. What they will do is hire you for their flatbed or dry van division, (go with flatbed for the experience.). After you get your CDL, they will hire you and send you with a trainer for the first 30-60 days and when you pass they will put you can get on the list for the Dallas Regional board.
